Today is a great day for millions of Americans who need health insurance. As of today, they will be able to shop for a health insurance plan and they cannot be denied coverage because they have a so-called “pre-existing condition.” The plans are affordable as the cost is on a sliding scale. This is a sane policy. It’s good for us all. And, it’s humane.
But, today is also a day of shame and disgrace. Congress, specifically, the Republican-led House of Representatives, shut down the government rather than allow people to buy health insurance. That is insanity. And, it’s terribly cruel. People with “pre-existing conditions” need to be able to buy health insurance that is not astronomically unaffordable. Let them buy it.
And, most Americans agree with me: “American voters oppose 72-22 percent Congress shutting down the federal government to block implementation of the Affordable Care Act, or Obamacare”
