Waitstaff should be able to stay home when they’re sick

In 2008, Washington, DC became one of the first places to enact paid sick days, but the Council left out tipped waitstaff. That made no sense from a public health perspective — um, do you want sick people serving your lunch? Waitstaff need to be able to earn paid sick days, just like everyone else. That’s why it’s good news that the DC Council is looking into expanding our paid sick leave law to cover tipped workers.
